7 Success Factors for Women Business Owners 03/18/2010
For my fellow EBWN members: A segment of notes taken from a free infocall with Sharla Jacobs of Rejuvenate Training and Sarah Medlicott, founder of The Elemental Woman Leadership Program. These ladies work closely with women in business and have come to find that there is a common theme that emerges .... - It's easy to run yourself ragged trying to "get it all done" - It's a challenge to feel feminine while working in the masculine energy of running your business -There's never enough time or energy to get the results you want without burning out... "Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey reports there were 877,000 self-employed women in Canada in 2006, accounting for about one third of all self-employed persons" Sarah shared 7 factors she believes make women successful business owners. Although she delves deeper into explaining each one during her leadership program, Sarah provided the listeners a list and elaborated on factor #1 while on the call: 1) MENTAL ATTITUDE - positive outlook -turn weakness into strengths 2) EMOTIONAL & SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE - communicate them in a health way 3) FLEXIBILITY -learn to dance with changes 4) STRONG LEADERSHIP SKILLS - time, energy, finances and education - strong organizational skills to make it 5) PERSEVERANCE - stay the course -stay committed during hardship 6) RELATIONSHIP BUILDING -let go of doing it all alone -have the alliances to mentor you and help you grow your business 7) TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE - have the willingness to learn from personal growth More insight on Factor #1 - your mental attitude. What are your limiting thoughts or beliefs? This usually is a subconscious question running in the background, nagging at you; known as "un-powerful questions". i.e) Am I good enough? Can I do this? Why is this happening to me? Why is this not working out? Try and get away form they "Why" and start asking yourself a different question - one that serves your higher purpose now. i.e.) How can this be easy? What reality am I serving? What am I to learn from this? How is this a gift? Really pay attention here, what is that little voice saying in the back of your mind and when you catch yourself asking "why...", start asking yourself A NEW POWERFUL QUESTION. Personal note: The modern woman business owner does wear many hats in a day and there comes a point when we need to step back from the tendency to over analyze; over think or look for problems to fix in every interaction in business. Mostly, this only creates more fear or insecurity. We just need stop making it so hard on ourselves and enjoy the accomplishments we do make in our day, however small and stay motivated. We create our reality. What we focus on is what we grow... so instead grow greatness and ease. I welcome you to share your comments on what these success factors mean to you or how you have already been successful with them.
